Emotion

Ink and water - May 2011

I just found a piece of a long illustration work I did last year. I think this is exactly the balance I am trying to find again. Also here is the perfect example of my way of interacting with the drawing. I just follow my emotions.

Bones

Pelvis' long study - Sept. 2011

Who says classical drawing has anatomy in his minds. This is definitely an aspect of the drawing that I totally discovered here. Observing the outline of a body is not plenty too express perfectly a movement or the soul of a model. So we learnt to understand the anatomy through long studies or copy of bones (like the pelvis - THE SACRED PELVIS)  thanks to our holy Bible : Das Gestalt des Menschen by Gottfried Bammes. I recommend this book for every art student.

Leaving

I left Paris the 2nd of August.
I left my family, my friends and Estienne.
I took the bus for 20 hours.
And I arrived in Viborg.
It was the beginning.

Sketches on the road to Viborg - August 2011
First real study - about 15 hours - August 2011

I remember how hard it was. The bust looks like that but OMG as soon as I look at the rendering compared to now I feel sick. But it was the translation of my past.

Culture

Walking and sketching at the same time through Viborg. -  Sept. 2011

Leaving France for Danemark was finally not an easy thing to do. I guessed I always had some common points with scandinavian way of life or mentality. Don't know why but as if I was attracted by this soft, cold and deep picture I had of these countries. So I arrived here and everything became clear for me. I adapted myself so fast. I don't know there is something about respect, purity and rarity that I could not really describe. Anyway I found really open people. But after some time I could find again this coldness through society, building, design and people. Something pure but far away from my latin blood. I keep thinking about our differences. Interesting.

Understand

I arrived in Viborg the 3rd of August. A week after we already became to work seriously. This first week at the Drawing Academy was completely crazy. In order to make us being more at ease with each other our two teachers organized exercises about sensations, movements, rhythm... in other words we spent a week to dance all together all days long. The best experience I've ever had. Then the real work began. Through short poses with a model the goal was to understand how to compose, frame, and orientate in the right way our drawings. First hard step to climb up.

Awakening

First week in Viborg - August 2011

Seriously, I can tell you a bit more about myself. After a long period in a french high school, I felt ready to spend my whole time working on what I had (and have) always lived for: drawing. I went to [l'Ecole Estienne] in Paris, where i was immersed in the wide world of the applied arts. There, I learned a lot but still I didn't feel complete. You can see the things I did during this year here - la MANAA d'ESTIENNE - . After this crazy year in Paris, I tried to apply in different animation schools. I have always been  interested by movement, rhythm and space. Animation just combines all of these. It is likewise a way to go further through the exploration of your capacities in drawing and the understanding of physics. I've never been mad about mathematics, physic or whatever, but these are just too fascinating. I failed most of the animation contests because I guess i wasn't ready yet to start working in this field. I decided to find a place where i could both improve my drawing skills and learn more about myself. I found this danish school called The Animation Workshop which proposed as well as good animation bachelors a semester of classical drawing in a section called The Drawing Academy. The solution was there. I just left my life in France and went in this crazy danish town called Viborg - place I'd never heard of before - a total renewal. This blog is at some point the result of my awakening because since the first day in here my life totally changed.

Fish

If you're here today, it may be because you've always wished to experience the underwater world. My name is Juliette, I am 19 years old and I just woke up from a long sleep deep inside the swamp. My fin just showed me the way to become the fish I am today. I feel ready: I'll share the story of my metamorphosis with you.
